1. Visual Arts

Fine Arts - artworks we readily associate with art. ex: drawing, painting, sculpture, print, graphic art, calligraphy, architecture

Decorative Arts - artworks that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional ex: jewelry

Contemporary Arts - include recently conceived art styles and techniques that are avant-garde or experimental in nature ex: collage

2. Performing Arts

- when an artists use their voices and/or body movements to communicate artistic expression

Music - is a culturally universal form of art. defined as manipulation of sound and silence. genres: art music, popular music, traditional music

Art music - umbrella term used to refer to music that stems from western classical music.

Popular music - music that is accessible and commercially available to the public

traditional music - musical forms that are communally and culturally based diverse with one community or group

Dance - is defined as a regulated and deliberated order of body movements. these movements have aesthetic value and are often performed accompanied by music Theatre - involves integrating and combining the visual and performing arts

WHY DO ARTISTS CREATE ART?

Recognition - as their livelihood, as seen with many visual artists, musicians, and television and movie stars.

Worship - personal recognition to glorify their creator

Impulse - they are driven by impulse

Self expression - express ideas and emotions that might not be adequately conveyed through words

Feldman method-

One way of a systematic approach to critiquing art

Description - the medium used, the artist, the date when it was created, the title, the size, and the like are being discussed

Ex: The painting was submitted by Juan Luna to the ExposiciĂłn Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1884 in Madrid. Standing at 4.22 meters in height and 7.675 m in width

Analysis - breaks down the different elements and principles used, and how it was used in the artwork. Lines, light, shape, and time are the formal components depicted in the artwork.

Ex: Lines, light, shape, and time are the formal components depicted in the artwork. The floor's lines and the inferred lines created by the bodies in the painting both reveal lines in the work of art. Because the artist employed artificial light to depict the blackness of the room, light is being used here.

Interpretation - incorporates the items you observed from the description and analysis and derived meaning from it. This stage is where you express the emotions, feelings, ideas, and moods you get from the artwork.

Evaluation - pass value and judgement on the artwork based on what you have observed from the first three steps conclusion

Ex: reveals how people were deprived of their freedom and rights. It portrays the inner political and socio-cultural viewpoints ; as well as the emotions of a Filipino master painter, like Juan Luna. Hence, this had well integrated the nature of the political, moral, and social lives of the Filipino.

PAINTINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS - may be defined as a two-dimensional form of art that showcases artistic expression created on a flat surface

THEMES

RELIGIOUS THEMES - the primary subject for the artworks during the Spanish colonial times. It can be seen in the murals of many churches.

HISTORICAL THEMES - Carlos “Botong ” V. Francisco (1912 - 1969 – Angono, Rizal native struggles through history

PORTRAITURE PAINTING - commemorate personalities and are seen in many formal institutions such as government offices

STILL LIFE - traditionally composed of a basket or bowl of fruits and flower vases on a table Paz Paterno one of the most notable and earliest still life artists, was born in Sta. Cruz, Manila in 1867 and died in 1914.

LANDSCAPES - depict the beauty of the outdoors. Can be natural environment such as countryside, and other rural scenery, including seascapes that focuses on the imagery of the bodies of the water
