Source Analysis Study

Overview

  • The process of evaluating and interpreting a source to understand its context, credibility, and relevance to the question.

How can you achieve this?

  • Firstly, you should have a clear understanding about the background and context of the source to assess how credible and how relevant it is.

Identify if it is a primary/secondary source, and who, when and why was it made?

Understand the perspective it was created from, and the intent behind the creation (background information).

Evaluate what the source helps us understand, what could be missing or biased from it, and the usefulness of the source. Why/why not?

Interpret a link to a specific event or theme.

How do I practice these skills before the test?

  • You can use the worksheets that your history teacher has given to you during class, as they usually have one or two different sources on it. You can practice evaluating and analysing the sources.

  • If you have finished or wanting to do something else, you can research official and verified images and documentation on Google.

  • Do not use ChatGPT or any AI to find sources to analyse as AI has a tendency to make up things that aren’t real.
