for OCD, ssri’s are used

nursing interventions for OCD: Flooding, cognitive behavioral therapy

Biological treatments: ssris for ocd

surgical treatments: gamma knife

anxiety disorders are only going to be hospitalized if suicidal

Know Benzos that are used for anxiety

never discountinue benzos abruptly

People may be on benzos because of alcohol withdrawal

For hypnotic dose, the lowest dose should be used of benzos

opioids and benzos dont react wel together and should be tapered off 

Patients are prone to withdrawl symptoms  after 12 weeks on benzos.

Be cautious with older adults as overdose is more common, start with low dose 

benzos can be used for critically ill patients short term 

Buspirone is not taken PRN, but used like ssri but is a benzo 

chapter 17

Somatization; this refers to the presentation of psychological distress as physical symptoms, which may lead to increased healthcare utilization and complexity in treatment.

cultural considerations; believe it has something to do with spells being casted. US immigrants population are often going to primary care visits due to traumatic events

Nursing interventions: encourage healthy lifestyle, provide emapthy about the situation, avoid unessesary procedures. 

Illness anxiety disorder: always looking to see if they have an illness  or becoming excessively worried about their health

risk factors; enviornemnt, madality of illness in their surroundings

Conversion disorder:  involves the experience of neurological symptoms such as numbness or paralysis that cannot be explained by medical evaluations, often triggered by psychological factors. this isnlasting through a long period of time, unlike panic disorder. 

Nursing interventions: decrease anxiety, Physical therapy, DBT

Cognitive factors affecting medical conditions: depression, sever anxiety, stress, can incerease risk for heart disease and cancer.
