Unit 1 Vocab
Human Geography - The study of different events and processes that change the way humans understand and change Earth. It can be political, social, economical and physically.
Spatial Perspective - Where and why something happens
Ecological perspective- Relationships between living things and their environment
Location- Where an object is
Absolute locations - Absolute location (latitude & longitude)
Relative location- Surroundings of an object
Place- Location distinguished by characteristics (climate, language, landforms, religion, etc.) Physical and human characteristics.
Site - Absolute location including characteristics, climate and resources
Situation - Location based on relation with other places and features surrounding (where something is and why it’s important) (ex: the school is next to the playground)
Space- area between two or more things
Distribuited- how things are arranged in an area
Density - Population in an area (people, animals, etc.)
Pattern- how things are arranged (settlements)
Flow- Movements/Changes in people, goods and political and economical changes
Environmental determinism- Humans are controlled by the physical environment
Possibilism- Humans control the environment
Distance Decay - The further things are the less they interact
Time - space compression - Causes relative distance to shrink. Time and space do not exists because of technology.
Sustainability - The use of natural resources that make sure they’ll be available in the future
