Media Literacy

  • Definition: ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media in a variety of forms.
  • Purpose: empower citizens to engage with traditional media and new technologies.

Information Literacy

  • Definition: ability to recognize when information is needed, locate, evaluate, and effectively communicate information in its various formats.

Technology Literacy

  • Definition: ability to use digital technology, communication tools or networks to locate, evaluate, use, and create information.
  • Focus: responsible, independent or collaborative use of technological tools to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information.

General Literacy (LITERACY)

  • Concept: a continuum of learning wherein individuals achieve their goals, develop their knowledge and potential, and participate fully in their community and wider society.
  • Core: ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute using printed and written materials.

Media & Information Literacy (MIL)

  • Essential skills and competencies that allow individuals to engage with media and other information providers effectively.
  • Purpose: develop critical thinking and lifelong learning skills to socialize and become active citizens.
