Vulnerable children are those exposed to abuse and neglect, necessitating protection.
Understanding the issues of vulnerable children requires knowledge of vulnerability types.
1.2 Definition and Concept of Vulnerable Child
Vulnerability (WHO & UNICEF definition): The state of being weak or poorly defended.
Vulnerable children are those at higher risk of deprivation, exploitation, abuse, neglect, and violence, particularly due to extreme poverty. 33% of India's population lives below the international poverty line.
Categories include: street children, child laborers, children affected by armed conflict, those affected by HIV/AIDS, and local orphans.
