Terpenes

Terpenes

  • Terpenes are a class of lipids synthesized from a five-carbon compound called isoprene.
  • Terpenes are created by modifying and adding to isoprene.
  • Examples of terpenes:
    • Vitamin A (all-trans-retinoic acid).
    • Carotenoid pigments (found in carrots).
    • Some molecules found in marijuana (but not THC, which isn't a terpene).
    • A molecule in the endomembrane system.
