Arabesque

Blindness in the fact that you cannot tell what to look at – from reading

1-     Henri Matisse painting ‘interior with aubergines’ 1911

2-     You are almost drawn to the red of the tablecloth - The dark colours around the work almost guide you into the room - Inviting you into the artwork. – the eggplants appear to be balancing precariously on the corner of the table could possibly act as a focus point of the painting

3-     This idea is also carefully explained as “The absence of a centre, the universe in continuous expansion”

4-     This also highlights the overall flatness of the artwork given the use of the same floral shapes of the floor and wall only being able to tell the difference with the pattern being abruptly cut in half.

5-     These points are emphasised in the essay ‘The binding’

It suggests that

The patterns suggest depth

Mondrian

more experiencing the painting, wants everyone to understand his paintings
