RELATIVE CLAUSES

  1. The “red” clause is called defining relative clause, because the information given in the relative clause is essential to the meaning of the main clause.

They are introduced by who/that, which/that, whose, where, when.

When who, which or that are the object in the relative clause, we can leave it out.

  • He’s the man who wrote the first Slovene book in the 16th century.
