Unitary Government
- Power is concentrated in a single central authority.
- The central authority possesses sovereignty.
- The central government can grant or dissolve powers from local and regional governments.
Federal Government
- Power is divided between the central government and several local governments.
- Examples include Mexico, Canada, and Switzerland.
- In Canada:
- The central government operates in Ottawa.
- Each of the 10 provinces has separate governing authority within its boundary.
- A constitution or higher authority outlines the division of powers between central and local governments.
- The central government remains the sovereign entity but must abide by the constitution.
