Proper fractions

The fraction 5/8 is an example of a proper fraction.

With the proper fraction, the numerator is smaller than the demoninator— it is less than a whole.

Improper fractions

  • The fraction 13/8 is an example of an improper fraction.

  • The value of an improper fraction is always equal to or greater than one whole.

    • The improper fraction 13/8 states you have 13 parts but only need 8 parts to make one whole

  • All improper fractions have a numerator larger than the demoninator

Mixed numbers

A mixed number is a whole number plus a fraction for example 11 Âľ

Multiplying fractions
