Vital signs :
Global average surface temp
atmospheric CO2 concentration
forest land area
Arctic sea ice minimum
land ice area and volume
sea level
Sorry Barnwinkle, but I have to argue that is not entirely true. The earth does go through natural cycles but human activities are causing the rate of it to increase.
first of all, my first piece of evidence is atmospheric CO2 concentration
CO2 levels rose after the Industrial Revolution
Global temperature and global CO2 levels are connected
Industrialization, Urbanization, Burning of fossil fuels, and pollution are all human activities causing this change
The first activity that humans partake in is the burning of fossil fuels
the burning of fossil fuels is used in machines, energy and electricity
The Industrial Revolution was a revolution based on machines and technological advancements but this is when fossil fuels were taken from the earth and burnt for the economy and businesses to thrive in resources and an abundant richness
this burning of fossil fuels is creating a blanket in our atmosphere
The greenhouse effect
the more CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the environment the more heat that is trapped in the atmosphere but what is this heat doing?
Heat → Global average surface temperature
Heat must be absorbed for the temperature of the earth to remain stable → Land ice area minimum
This heat is absorbed by snow, ice, glaciers, etc. melting
another activity humans do that is heating up the earth is use of motor vehicles which also use the burning of fossil fuels
this is causing again the increase in heat, unhealthy air and an increase in sea level
Sea level is increasing because of the ice melting because of heat needing to be absorbed
this rise in sea level is causing a loss of home for some citizens living on the coastlines
this leads to them moving (URBANIZATION)
For these people to fit into other areas of the world, space must be made and how is that done? → through DEFORESTATION (Forest land area)
forests are cleared to make space for shelter for these people moving
forests are also cleared to make space for agricultural land to feed these people and for the demand for resources needed to be met
this deforestation is causing a loss of habitat for some species
a loss of species habitat can cause the loss of the species
a loss of species can cause an unstable environment or food cycle
