Success Criteria:

You will be able to talk about a person or a thing

Les Articles au Singulier:

  1. A noun is the name of a person, place or thing

  2. Every noun has a gender. They are either masculine or feminine.

  3. The clues for the gender of the noun are ‘Gender Markers’

Definite Articles (The)

  • Le: Masculine singular (e.g., le chat - the cat)

  • La: Feminine singular (e.g., la table - the table)

  • L': Used before vowels or mute h (e.g., l'ami - the friend)

  • Les: Plural for both genders (e.g., les enfants - the children)

Indefinite Articles (A/An/Some)

  • Un: Masculine singular (e.g., un livre - a book)

  • Une: Feminine singular (e.g., une voiture - a car)

  • Des: Plural for both genders (e.g., des pommes - some apples)

Usage Notes:

  • Definite articles are used when referring to specific nouns or when the noun is known to the listener.

  • Indefinite articles are used when referring to non-specific nouns or when introducing a noun for the first time.
