1.3 Creation and God’s Nature in Genesis 1

1) God as the Creator

  • Genesis 1 shows God created everything, including humanity in his own image.

  • This emphasises that only God has the power to create.

  • Creation is special because it's made by God, so it should be cared for.

  • Humans share qualities with God, like love and compassion, allowing for a close relationship with Him.

2) God as Omnipotent (All-Powerful)

  • Genesis 1:31: Everything God made was "very good."

  • God can create things from nothing (ex nihilo), showing His limitless power.

  • Belief in God’s omnipotence encourages Christians to trust in God’s ability to do or change anything.

3) God as Transcendent

  • Genesis 1:3: God said, "Let there be light," and it happened instantly, showing He creates through His word alone.

  • God exists beyond the world and human understanding, inspiring awe and reverence

  • God is above the physics and science that govern humanity
