ĐỀ MEDIA & ADVERTISING
1⃣ The media should include more stories that report good news. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
BÀI HOÀN CHỈNH: Some individuals claim that more positive stories reflecting good news should appear in media coverage. From my perspective, I firmly agree with this opinion since it can create a positive social environment.
Positive media coverage can alleviate psychological pressure on people in modern society. In this day and age, since many individuals tend to be frequently exposed to prevailing controversies in politics, wars, and crime-related news appearing on social media platforms, they may have a sense of pessimism and fear which would undermine their quality of life. In contrast, if authorities aimed to publish more optimistic stories such as charitable endeavors or some success of law enforcement agencies, a large number of residents would feel secure thanks to a more optimistic outlook. For instance, the government in Viet Nam has actively encouraged the dissemination of positive content on social media platforms, which has fostered a more resilient and hopeful public spirit.
Prioritizing positive news can also have an important influence on public health. Nowadays, due to the comfort and convenience of advanced technology, a large proportion of young people tend to neglect physical health and adopt a sedentary lifestyle, which may trigger some chronic illnesses and obesity. However, if authorities collaborated with some influencers or successful individuals to share their active lifestyle and positive stories, the younger generation would be inspired to participate in physical activities, which can enhance society’s health and reduce the pressure on the healthcare system. For example, in Vietnam, many successful youtubers with active lifestyle are invited to share their positive journey on traditional media coverage and social media platforms to encourage young people to engage in more exercise and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, publishing more positive stories reflecting good news can foster society’s health.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that increasing positive news on media coverage is essential. It can not only encourage a healthy lifestyle but also mitigate the psychological strain of residents nowadays, which may create a reliable and stable society.

ĐOẠN CHƯA SỬA: Positive media coverage can alleviate psychological pressure on people in modern society. In this day and age, due to rapid economic growth, many enterprises have tendency to put heavy workload on employees to catch up with targeted KPI, which can trigger mental strain on employees. Specifically, if the press and media uploaded more positive stories from other positive individuals, it could alleviate the mental pressure on people and foster their positive morale to achieve their dreams and goals in the future. Positive media can alleviate psychological pressure on people in modern society, where people are constantly exposed to negative information. Nowadays, many individuals tend to frequently encounter political conflicts, wars, crime-related news on social media. Over time, this continuous exposure can increase stress levels and create a sense of fear and anxiety. In contrast, publishing more uplifting stories, such as charitable activities or successful crime prevention efforts, can help people feel more secure and hopeful. In particular, when individuals develop a more positive outlook, they are more likely to maintain emotional stability and participate actively in society. For example, the Vietnamese government tend to not only limit misinformation but promote constructive content to foster public confidence and social harmony. (band 7)
Publishing positive stories on the media to prevent people from chronic illness is another reason. Nowadays, many teenagers tend to adapt (thiếu a) sedentary lifestyle since advanced technologies offer them the comfort and convenience, which may trigger some chronic illness and obesity. To be more precise, if authorities collaborated with influencers or successors to share some advantages of participating in physical activities and their journey of sustaining (thiếu a) dynamic lifestyle, some young residents would be inspired to take care their health, which enhance societies’ health and reduce the pressure on health care systems. Prioritizing positive news can also improve public health by encouraging healthier behavior. Nowadays, many young people rely heavily on technology and allocate prolonged time to sitting, leading to adopting sedentary lifestyle an increase in the risk of obesity and other health problems. In contrast, when active lifestyle and inspiring personal stories frequently appear on social media platforms, young audience are more likely to imitate these behaviors. This is because repeated exposure to active content can gradually influence social norms and make healthy living seem both desirable and achievable. Over time, this shift in behavior can improve overall public health and reduce pressure on health care systems. (vẫn là band 7)
In conclusion, I strongly believe that increasing positive news on media coverage is essential. It can not only encourage a healthy lifestyle but also mitigate the psychological strain of residents nowadays, which may create a reliable and stable society.
2⃣ Some people believe that powerful advertising can be harmful to individuals. In what ways can advertising negatively affect people? What solutions can be implemented?
BÀI HOÀN CHỈNH: Many individuals claim that overwhelming advertising can be detrimental to consumers. From my perspective, being exposed to excessive advertising can put a financial strain on consumers, and this challenge can be addressed through governmental intervention.
Excessive advertising can have a negative influence on individuals’ financial situations. In this day and age, many brands and companies tend to utilize aggressive marketing strategies, such as time-limited deals with emotional appeal, to target consumer psychology. In particular, since people are often deprived of the time to consider carefully, they tend to make impulsive decisions. As a result, customers may not utilize all product functions, which can make them feel dissatisfied and waste their money, causing greater financial strain. For instance, many household appliance brands in Vietnam have a tendency to launch advertisements offering 50% discounts for a short period on social media platforms to attract customers, which may pressure them into purchasing these products immediately, placing financial pressure on consumers. Moreover, overwhelming advertising can have a negative effect on consumers’ self-esteem. This is because many cosmetic brands tend to promote unrealistic beauty standards to exaggerate their products, which may effectively attract customers who lack knowledge about cosmetics. More specifically, when these consumers use the products and receive results that differ from their expectations, they may feel dissatisfied due to unhealthy comparison, which can undermine their self-esteem. For example, many low-tier cosmetic brands in Vietnam tend to promote their products using cheap prices and digital enhanced images to attract young female consumers, which can negatively affect young consumers’ skin, leading to lower self-esteem.
Policy reform is a compelling solution to address this issue. In many countries, authorities tend to have weak/inadequate/ineffective/insufficient regulations controlling content on social media platforms, which may allow brands and companies to launch insufficient ads to promote and sell their products more easily. By contrast, if governments imposed strict policies, such as substantial fines on companies using exaggerated advertisements, this would discourage brands from continuing to promote unrealistic products, leading to a safer market and more realistic advertising. Furthermore, educational reform plays a vital role in protecting people from overwhelming advertising. This is because many young people tend to believe in colorful advertisements on social media platforms and purchase products without parental supervision. In particular, if schools integrated financial management into the curriculum to raise students’ awareness, young people would better understand marketing gimmicks and the value of money, helping them manage their personal finances more effectively. For example, authorities in Japan tend to have strict regulations to protect consumers from excessive advertising and require high schools to educate students about advertising in order to help young people avoid unrealistic products.
In conclusion, while powerful advertising can negatively affect consumers by undermining their self-esteem and financial well-being, governmental and educational interventions, such as implementing strict policies and raising young people’s awareness, would be effective in addressing this issue.

SỬA LẠI LẦN 2: Many individuals claim that overwhelming advertising can be detrimental to consumers. From my perspective, being exposed to excessive advertising can put a financial strain on consumers, and this challenge can be addressed by governmental intervention.
Excessive advertising can have a negative influence on finance of consumers. In this day and age, many brands and companies tend to utilize aggressive marketing strategies on social media platforms such as offering time-limited deals with emotional appeal to target customer psychology. Specifically, since consumers may not have much time to consider, they tend to make impulsive decisions. Thus, buyers may not utilize the purchased products, which would make them feel unsatisfied and put more pressure on their finance. For example, many household appliance brands in Vietnam tend to offer many time-limited deals on TikTok or Facebook to attract people with financial strain to purchase their products, which may waste customers’ money if they cannot utilize all product functions. Furthermore, highly persuasive advertising can also decrease finance of nations. This is because when some cosmetics brands tend to utilize aggressive strategy such as exaggerating their products, many consumers would believe and purchase these cosmetic products to enhance their appearance. Particularly, since consumers receive results which is not the same as their expectation, they would feel unsatisfied, leading to decrease the number of expenditures from people. Consequently, that countries would receive less revenue from selling, triggering a significant decrease in national funds. For example, many cosmetics brands in Vietnam tend to target female consumers with no experience in cosmetics field to sell products, which would make them feel unsatisfied and deny purchasing any beauty products in the future.

3⃣ Many people feel that media coverage has become increasingly biased today. Why is this? What can be done to fix this problem?
Some individuals claim that press coverage/news coverage/ media outlets have become more biased nowadays. From my perspective, these media companies tend to be more biased to increase their revenue/profit, and governmental intervention is necessary to address this challenge.
SỬA LẠI LẦN 1: Some individuals claim that more press coverage/news coverage/ media outlets become more biased nowadays. From my perspective, this trend can be attributed by commercial interests, and it can be addressed by governmental intervention.

Gaining more revenue is a compelling reason why press coverage becomes more biased. In this day and age, many media outlets tend to publish news without providing the whole picture, they can utilize the psychological aspects of polarized news to attract more viewers and avoid making loyal readers feel dissatisfied, which strengthen their engagement and earning more profitability. For example, many media organizations in Vietnam tend to publish only one dimension of a piece of news on social media platforms to cater loyal readers and attract new viewers, which would improve their revenue.

SỬA LẠI LẦN 3: Publishing biased news to gain more revenue is a compelling reason. In this day and age, some cosmetic or technology brands tend to allocate many funds on some media outlets to advertise their products. In particular, many media organizations are likely to publish news without producing the whole picture to utilize the psychological appeal, which would avoid making loyal readers feel dissatisfied and attract new viewers. As a result, these media outlets cannot only strengthen the engagement but also boost profitability through commercial interests. For instance, many media organizations in Vietnam tend to publish only one dimension of events and integrate commercial ads into news, which would cater to particular readers and improve their revenue.
Reforming policies and regulations would be an optimal solution to address this challenge. In some developing countries, since authorities lack effective factchecking and penal regulations, they would struggle to control published news on both digital and conventional media. In contrast, if authorities imposed strict policies such as hefty fines on organizations publishing fake news, they would deter biased press coverage and protect residents from unrealistic news. For example, governments in Japan tend to adjust policies and increase fines to address some domestic media outlets broadcasting biased news.
Reforming policies and regulations would be an optimal solution to address this challenge. This is because many authorities lack effective fact-checking/ adequate verification systems and implement financial penalties, they would fail to deter insufficient news of tabloid outlets on both traditional and digital media. In contrast, if authorities imposed strict such as hefty fines on organization disseminating fake news, they would shield residents from inaccurate news since there tabloid outlets are discouraged to launch untrue news due to financial liability. For instance, governments in Japan tend to adjust policies and increase fines to address some domestic media outlets broadcasting biased news.
In conclusion, I believe that boosting commercial revenue is the main reason why press organizations publish biased news and governmental intervention would be an optimal measure to address this problem.
In conclusion, media bias is largely driven by financial incentives, and stricter governmental regulations are necessary to ensure more balanced and responsible journalism.
4⃣ If a product is good, people will buy it. So advertising is unnecessary and only entertainment. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some people claim that people will purchase products if they are of high quality. Thus, advertising is not essential and should be used merely as a form of recreation. From my perspective, I firmly disagree with this opinion, as advertisements play a crucial role in guiding consumers to choose appropriate products and introducing innovative products to a wider audience.
Advertising is an indispensable marketing tool to help consumers purchase suitable products. This is because there is a wide range of products from various brands, which may baffle consumers when they desire to purchase a suitable one. By providing detailed information about specific features, brands will enable audiences to make informed decisions and avoid disappointment after spending money. For example, many cosmetic brands in Japan often promote their products with realistic images on social media platforms, allowing consumers to select products appropriately based on their needs.
Introducing new products is another purpose of advertisements. Even if a product possesses superior quality, it may remain unnoticed in a saturated market without commercial promotion. Thanks to rapid development of media and the Internet, many brands can effectively advertise their innovative products to a mass audience, which enables them to reach more potential consumers. As a result, they can sell more products to gain more revenue. For instance, many tech brands such as Samsung and Apple often launch advertisements about their new tech devices on social media platforms to raise consumers' awareness about their products.
In conclusion, while some individuals believe that advertisements should be used as a form of entertainment, I strongly believe that advertising can not only support consumers in choosing the most suitable products but also boost enterprises' profits.
5⃣ Many people use social media every day to communicate and get news. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
VIET LAI LAN 2: Social media platforms play a vital role in enabling users to maintain social connections and stay informed. While these platforms facilitate instant communication regardless of geographical distance, they can expose individuals to fake news on the Internet. From my perspective, the advantages of social media can outweigh its drawbacks.
Misinformation and sensationalized news are the main disadvantages of social media. Driven by commercial interests, many tabloid media outlets tend to publish news without presenting the whole picture to exploit readers' emotions. Consequently, vulnerable users would believe in fake news, causing anxiety and pessimistic outlooks. In fact, there were many press organizations in Vietnam that published misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic, which would generate psychological distress and social anxiety disorder among residents. However, the drawback of social media is minimal compared to its advantages.
Instant communication across a long distance is a compelling advantage. In the past, people had to wait a week to receive messages from others through letters, or employees only worked and accomplished their workload at their companies. In contrast, thanks to many features of social media, such as video calling and texting, users can not only converse and share their stories with others instantly but also manage their workload regardless of long distances. For instance, a large number of people in Vietnam often use social media to communicate with their friends and relatives, and many companies enable employees to utilize these useful features to report their progress to managers or senior workers. For this reason, this exemplifies how aforementioned advantage outweighs its shortcoming since the drawback can be addressed by governmental intervention.
In conclusion, while individuals can be exposed to misinformation on social media, I believe that instant communication can outweigh the drawback.
7⃣ Some people think advertisements have positive economic effects, others say they cause negative social effects. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Đề ngày 30/11/2024: "While some people claim that advertising drives economic growth, others suggest it harms society by making individuals feel unhappy with themselves and their belongings. Consider both arguments and present your viewpoint."
Some individuals claim that advertising has a positive influence on economy since it increases national revenue, while others believe that it generates adverse social consequence such as mental health. Personally, I firmly believe in the former view.
People believe that advertisements can cause psychological pressure on people. Nowadays, many cosmetic brands tend to exaggerate beauty standards to promote their products, which can attract many audiences lacking cosmetic knowledge. Since these audiences are exposed to these advertisements, their beauty expectation may be distorted. Consequently, when consumers use these cosmetic products, they would feel unsatisfied since they compare their results to unrealistic beauty, causing undermining their self-esteem and dissatisfaction. For instance, many teenagers in Vietnam tend to be exposed to unrealistic advertisements on social media, which can affect negatively their mental health after using these cosmetic products.
Meanwhile, I believe that advertising can increase national GDP. Since effective advertisements can enable brands to reach their potential consumers, these brands can gain more profits. In particular, since these brands have more revenue, they can upgrade facilities and recruit highly skilled workers. As a result, they can contribute their revenue to their nation and create job opportunities, leading to higher national GDP. For example, many household appliance brands in Vietnam tend to utilize appropriate advertisements to reach targeted consumers, which can help them have more profitability to contribute to national Vietnam.
In conclusion, although advertising may negatively affect mental well-being by encouraging unhealthy comparison, its role in stimulating economic growth and job creation is more substantial.

Since audiences are frequently exposed to these exaggerated advertisements, their beauty expectation may be distorted. Consequently, when these audiences use these products, they would feel unsatisfied due to unhealthy comparison, leading to undermining self-esteem. For instance, many cosmetic brands in Vietnam often launch unrealistic beauty, causing dissatisfaction and reducing self-perception among teenagers because they fail to achieve a similar result compared to their expectation. However, this argument lacks concrete evidence to support because many people are able to use social media to seek useful information about a particular product that they want to purchase, which can support them in seeking suitable products.
The foundation for my belief is that advertisements can stimulate national GDP. This is due to the fact that numerous brands tend to utilize advertisements to promote their products, which can enable them to reach some potential consumers. In particular, since these brands are able to earn more revenue, they can upgrade their facilities and recruit more highly skilled workers to improve their products, leading to earning higher profits. As a result, the governments can improve the national economy based on paid tax of brands. For example, many household appliances in Vietnam tend to utilize advertisements on social media platforms such as TikTok or Facebook, which can attract numerous users to purchase their products. Therefore, they can contribute to Vietnam’s GDP. Hence, advertising is an optimal way to improve GDP.
In conclusion, although advertising may negatively affect mental well-being by encouraging unhealthy comparison, its role in stimulating economic growth and job creation is more substantial.
8⃣ Some consumers are less influenced by advertising nowadays. Why? Is this positive or negative?"Studies show that modern consumers are less affected by advertising compared to those in the past. Why do you think consumers are less influenced by advertising nowadays? In your opinion, is this trend positive or negative?"
9⃣ Businesses emphasize that their products are new. Why? Is this positive or negative?
The tendency that news reports in media focus on problems and emergencies rather than on positive developments is harmful for individuals and the society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Đề ngày 17/08/2024 (Liên quan đến ảnh hưởng văn hóa): "Cultural differences between nations are becoming less distinct as people worldwide now watch the same movies, adopt similar fashion styles, and are exposed to the same brands, advertisements, and TV programs. Are the benefits of this change greater than the drawbacks?
Many people claim that cultural boundaries are fading as individuals devote more attention to the same forms of entertainment and commercial advertisements, which leads to the disappearance of cultural identity. However, this trend can facilitate economic growth by enabling nations to access global markets. From my perspective, the advantages of this change outweigh the shortcomings.
Erosion of cultural identity is the main disadvantage of this change. This can be attributed to the fact that younger generations are frequently exposed to global content such as foreign music, being more appealing and widespread than the traditional ones nowadays. Because of that, some young individuals may neglect their cultures or customs such as traditional music or local festivals, which may lead to a loss of cultural values since there would be no young people preserving these customs. For example, many young individuals in Vietnam tend to allocate most of their time to watching foreign TV shows instead of TV programs relating to cultural values. However, this disadvantage is minimal compared to its benefit if cultures and customs are taught effectively at schools, they will not disappear entirely.
The foundation for my belief is that globalization can stimulate economic growth. In the past, due to cultural barriers, many brands could only sell their products to local consumers, which would limit their scale of operation because of low profits. Thanks to rapid globalization, many brands in developing countries can access international markets, which drives them to reach more potential consumers globally. As a result, they can gain more revenue via numerous transactions to contribute to the national economy through taxation, leading to economic growth. For instance, many brands in Vietnam have more economic opportunities to promote their products on social media thanks to the blurring of cultural boundaries, enabling them to pay more taxes to develop national economy. Therefore, the advantages of this trend can outweigh its drawbacks since it has a positive influence on a national scale.
In conclusion, while the dominance of global media can erode cultural identity, I believe that its advantages can outweigh drawbacks since it stimulates brands to reach numerous potential consumers, which enables them to contribute more taxation to authorities to develop the national economy.
Đề ngày 29/03/2025: "Advertising today has a strong impact on people’s decisions and behavior. What are the effects of advertising on individuals? What measures can be taken to minimize its harmful influence?"
Advertisements nowadays have a negative influence on people's behavior and decision-making as they undermine consumer trust and cause health problems. From my perspective, policy reforms and education are essential to address these effects.
[BODY 1]
Overwhelming advertising can encourage impulsive buying, which may lead to distrust and reduced future spending.
This is because some brands often excessively launch advertisements by offering time-limited deals to urge audience to make impulsive decisions.
Consequently, since audiences' consideration time is deprived, they often bypass the necessary step of verify product quality or seller credibility.
In particular, if they receive low-quality products that do not match their expectation, they may become skeptical about advertisements in general, making them less willing to engage in future consumption.
For example, some consumers in Vietnam are frequently exposed to commercial livestreams on social media platforms such as Facebook or TikTok, which may urge them to make spending decisions without consideration, causing disappointment after receiving products that do not match exaggerated claims in the ads
Furthermore, advertisements can also pose potential risks to individuals' health.
This can be attributed to the fact that many fast food chains tend to launch aggressive marketing campaigns on social media, which may portray unhealthy eating habits as a trendy lifestyle.
This may encourage young consumers, who often lack self-discipline, to purchase these processed foods more frequently.
When combined with a sedentary lifestyle, such overconsumption can increase the likelihood of developing chronic illnesses such as obesity and diabetes.
For instance, research in the USA suggests a strong correlation between the high frequency of fast food commercial exposure and the rising rates of adolescent obesity.
[Body 2]
Implementing policy reforms is a highly effective measure to mitigate this issue.
By enforcing stricter advertising codes, such as the imposition of substantial fines, authorities can compel businesses to take the potential impact on their profit margins into account before launching campaigns with exaggerated claims. Consequently, this ensures that companies provide factual information, leading to better protection for consumers against marketing gimmicks and psychological triggers.
For instance, authorities in Vietnam have recently tightened advertising regulations on social media platforms like YouTube, including hefty financial penalties for non-compliance, to safeguard a wide range of audiences from deceptive commercial content.
Moreover, education reform plays a vital role in alleviating this issue. This is attributed to the fact that when children are equipped with financial management skills and media literacy, they can better discern their essential needs and avoid being swayed by deceptive marketing gimmicks. Consequently, students learn to create budgetary plans and resist psychological triggers, leading to more rational consumption habits. For instance, the Japanese national curriculum integrates consumer education to empower students to critically analyze exaggerated advertisements and avoid making impulsive, irrational purchases.
In conclusion, while powerful advertising can negatively affect consumers by undermining consumers' belief and health condition, governmental and educational interventions, such as implementing strict policies and raising young people’s awareness, would be effective in addressing this issue.
