Lord of the Flies Ch. 5

[[SUMMARY[[

In chapter 5 of "Lord of the Flies," the boys hold a meeting to discuss their lack of progress in building shelters and maintaining a signal fire. Ralph tries to maintain order and focus on their priorities, but the boys become distracted by their fear of a supposed beast on the island. Simon suggests that the beast may be within themselves, but the others dismiss him. Later, a dead parachutist lands on the island, and the boys mistake it for the beast. Jack leads a hunt for the supposed beast, but they only find the dead body. The chapter ends with the boys becoming more savage and losing their sense of civilization.
