Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, which are tiny, often microscopic organisms that include bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. It plays a critical role in various fields such as medicine, agriculture, and environmental science.

Biofilms are complex communities of microorganisms that adhere to surfaces, often contributing to both beneficial and detrimental activities in various environments, including wastewater treatment, where they help degrade pollutants, and in medical settings, where they can form protective layers on devices leading to infections.
