Moments Test
The centre of gravity of a lamina is the point at which the entire weight of the lamina can be considered to act, and it is determined by the distribution of mass within the lamina.
Definition of Moment of a Force: The moment of a force about a point is defined as the product of the force and the perpendicular distance from the point to the line of action of the force.
Principle of Moments (at Equilibrium): For a system to be in equilibrium, the sum of the clockwise moments about any point must equal the sum of the counterclockwise moments about that same point.
Machines: Machines utilize the principle of moments to gain mechanical advantage, allowing smaller forces to move larger loads by altering the distance over which the force is applied.
