  • The writer's authority and appeal should be evaluated considering:

    • the effective use of rhetorical effects and emphasis

    • the legitimacy of the authority

    • whether there is bias in opinion

    • if the authority is a “lone wolf” in the field (no one else knows it except them)

    • if the claim made is within the authority’s area of expertise
