Changing the subject

T= 3𝑥 + 2 - ‘T’ is the subject in this equation because it' sits by itself on one side

Complex rearranging

  • Move all the terms containing the subject to one side of the equation

  • Then factorise

Expanding brackets

  • Multiply the (immediate) outer number with the contents of the brackets

Double (or triple) brackets

  • Use one bracket to multiply the other bracket

  • (T) Choose 2 brackets and multiply them, then multiply the remaining brackets

Factorising quadratics

  • Make an X

  • Place 2 multiples of the 𝑥 value on the left side of the X

  • Place 2 multiples of the factor with no 𝑥’s on the right side

  • The top row are multiplied together and the bottom row are multiplied together

  • This should make the other factor when added together

  • The top row creates 1 bracket and the bottom the other
