Orientation

The small business owner explains to the employee the workplace procedures, and human resource guidelines the business operates under (e.g., wages and work conditions)

On the Job training

This is where a new employee is given training in their duties while they are employed and performing some duties.

This is the most common form of training in small business.

It is both cost and time efficient.

Most of this is provided by the small business owner themselves or an experienced staff member.

External Training

Small businesses have people engage in external training in areas where the business does not have adequate resources to provide such training.

This is common in trade industries such as building and construction.
