Sonnet - a 14 line lyrical poem usually written in iambic pentameter and has one of several rhyme schemes

lyric - music/musical

iamb - a metrical foot, or unit of measure, consisting of an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable

iambic pentameter - line of poetry that contains 5 iambs

what makes a sonnet shakespearean? - three quatrains, one couplet, ten syllables per line, ababcdcdefefgg rhyme scheme

quatrain - a group of 4 lines (a rhyme within them)

couplet - a pair of rhyming lines
