Trends in Offending and Victimisation
Crime Statistics:
Crime is measured through victim report surveys such as the Crime Survey for England and Wales
Also measured through reporting and recording of incidents to police
Also measured through self-report surveys
Violent crime:
81% of violent crimes were committed by males alone in 2019, 12% by females and 7% by a combination of male and female
Male-only crime has increased by 6% since 2015, with female-only crimes decreasing by 7% since the same year
28% of violent crime involved 2 or more attackers- 17% of which was 4 or more attackers
Robbery:
89% of robberies were committed by males only in 2019 according to CSEW
Just 5% of robberies were committed by females only, with 6% by mixed-gender groups
Over half committed by 16 to 24 year olds
The majority of robberies were committed by 2 or more offenders (55%) with almost 1 in 4 robberies committed by 4 or more offenders
Criminal Damage:
Less than a third of cases of criminal damage have known characteristics of offenders
In those cases 72% were male, 15% female and 13% mixed gender offenders
Rise in female-only offending in this area from 5% in 2010
