MCAT CARS

Main steps to use for passages:

  1. Rank and order the Passage:

    • Is it a now passage or a later one? Skip or do?

    • read the first 1-2 lines of the passage to get an understanding of it

  2. Preview the questions:

    • Keywords, main ideas - get a sense of the topic

  3. Work the Passage:

    • highlighting with the flow: pronouns, names, pieces of info

    • DO NOT RE-READ!!! Keep going, and come back later during questions

    • Each passage, write a few words down, main ideas, topic

  4. Define the bottom line:

    • in a few words, write down the main idea of the WHOLE passage

  5. Attack the questions:

    • Do them in the order YOU want - skip harder ones, implicit ones

    • Determine if it is implicit, explicit, roman numeral

    • Go back to the passage for main words, and ideas → This is why writing down a few notes per paragraph is important, less time is taken here

  6. Inspect the section

    • See if you answered everything - DO NOT LEAVE BLANKS!!!
