Infectious:

·    Bovine herpes

·    Mastitis

·    Ischaemic necrosis (if caused by bacteria)

Non-infectious

·    Photosensitisation

·    Hyperkeratosis

·    Lacerations

·    Udder oedema

·    Ischaemic necrosis (if caused by trauma)

Local anaesthesia for teat surgery

·    Teat cistern infusion

·    Ring block

·    Inverted V block

·    IV regional anaesthesia

Layers for closure

·    Mucosal layer – continuous pattern, 4-0/5-0 polyglactin

·    Submucosal layer – continuous pattern, 4-0 polyglactin

·    Skin – simple interrupted, 2-0/3-0 prolene

Indications for amputation

·    Irreversible trauma

·    Severe/gangrenous mastitis
