The Creation Story

Dei Verbum 

  1. God reveals himself through WORDS and DEEDS so that we may know the truths of God and salvation 

  2. Revelation comes through: 

    1. Scripture 

    AND 

    1. Tradition  

  3. Inspiration: The Bible is God's word / Authors – Literary Forms: should be considered as we read and interpret scripture – Inerrancy: the Bible is truth and free from error in matters concerning salvation  

  4. As Christians, we should read the Old Testament to prepare for the coming of Christ 

  5. The Gospels are critical to learn about Jesus, truth, and salvation 

  6. Everyone should read the Bible

  1. God brings light and darkness 

  2. God brings sky and water 

  3. God brings land, seas, and vegetation 

  4. God brings sun, moon, and stars 

  5. God brings birds & sea creatures 

  6. God brings land animals and humans

  2. Created Heavens and Earth 

  3. Garden of Eden --> Creation of Adam and Eve 

Method of Creation 

He called upon light, so there was. "Let there be light"  

Took the rib out of Adam and formed a woman 

Portrait of God 

Considerate, good, careful 

Careful, trusting, loving, ordering 

Portrait of Humanity 

Innocent, beginner, made in God's image 

Innocent, no shame or feeling of vulnerability  

BOTH:  

  • There is one God 

  • God is Good 

  • The world is good  

  • Humanity is Good 

  • Humans have dominion over creation 

  • Humans have free will
