Liberals hold certain views on the role of the state. Generally, liberals agree that the state is created by agreement of all people, thus acting as a ‘natural referee’ between different individuals and groups and is ‘devoid of bias'. Moreover, liberals generally agree that political authority comes form the people, and the state must always act in the best interests of the people, yet without an absolute obligation for the people to follow the laws of the land.
