Plant diversity

Differences Between Bryophytes and Pteridophytes

  • Bryophytes:

    • Non-vascular plants (lack specialized tissue for water and nutrient transport).

    • Reproduce via spores and do not produce seeds.

    • Examples include mosses and liverworts.

    • Typically found in moist environments; have a dominant gametophyte stage.

  • Pteridophytes:

    • Vascular plants (possess specialized tissue for transporting water and nutrients).

    • Also reproduce via spores but can have more complex life cycles.

    • Examples include ferns and horsetails.

    • Adapted to a wider variety of habitats, often have a dominant sporophyte stage.
