Nervous System and Endocrine System
Similarities
Both control and coordinate body activities.
Both help maintain homeostasis.
Both use chemical signals (nervous system → neurotransmitters; endocrine system → hormones).
Both can influence each other’s functions.
Differences
Nervous System
Uses electrical impulses and neurotransmitters to send messages.
Responds very fast (milliseconds).
Effects are short-term and end quickly.
Targets specific cells, muscles, or glands.
Controls direct and immediate actions (e.g., muscle movement, reflexes).
Endocrine System
Uses hormones carried by the bloodstream.
Responds more slowly (seconds to days).
Effects last longer (hours, days, or more).
Targets many cells or tissues throughout the body.
Controls gradual changes (e.g., growth, metabolism, reproduction).
