266- Gather Data

Purpose

  • Gather concrete data on the previous sprint to inform improvements for the next sprint.

Importance

  • Correct, complete data ⇒ better retrospective insights.
  • Skipping or rushing this step = insufficient data ⇒ minimal improvement.

Data-Gathering Techniques

Timeline

  • Map events chronologically (day/week markers).
  • Record issues, wins, and initiatives without analysis.

Triple Nickel

  • Split team into up to 5 groups (adjust to size).
  • Each member lists 5 problems/issues in 5 minutes on index cards.
  • Cards pass right; each person reviews & adds notes.
  • Rotate 5 times to accumulate diverse perspectives.

Mad – Sad – Glad

  • Team logs emotional highs (glad), lows (sad), and frustrations (mad) experienced during the sprint.
  • Surfaces hidden concerns or morale boosters.
