Importance
- Correct, complete data ⇒ better retrospective insights.
- Skipping or rushing this step = insufficient data ⇒ minimal improvement.
Data-Gathering Techniques
Timeline
- Map events chronologically (day/week markers).
- Record issues, wins, and initiatives without analysis.
Triple Nickel
- Split team into up to 5 groups (adjust to size).
- Each member lists 5 problems/issues in 5 minutes on index cards.
- Cards pass right; each person reviews & adds notes.
- Rotate 5 times to accumulate diverse perspectives.
Mad – Sad – Glad
- Team logs emotional highs (glad), lows (sad), and frustrations (mad) experienced during the sprint.
- Surfaces hidden concerns or morale boosters.
