Topic 1 Numbers

BODMAS:

  • Bodmas shows the order in wich to calculate the question in order to get the correct answer

  • B:Brackets

  • O:Order

  • D:Divide

  • M:Multipy

  • A:Addition

  • S:Subtraction

  • When you have a square of cubed make sure to calculate that first before continuing with Bodmas.

Types of Numbers:

  • Integers : A whole number that can be positive or negative or zero

  • Rational : Numbers that can be written as Fractions

Rational comes in 3 diffrent forms

    Integers

    Fractions

    Decimals

  • Irrational Numbers : They are messy numbers, this means that They cant be Written as fractions and they are continues and never ending. Things like roots and surds.

  • Prime Numbers: A number that dose not divide by anything apart from 1 and itself.

  • Multiples : They are just numbers in the time table of the given number within the question. For example “What are the multiples of 36.” The answers would be (1×36) , (2×18), (3×12), (4×9), and (6×6), all of which are derived from multiplying 36 by whole numbers.

  • Factors : They are numbers that divide evenly into other numbers. For example “The factors of 12” The answer is (1×12) (2×6) (3×4). This can be used in a factor tree.

Finding Prime numbers in a factor tree example

LCM and HCM

LCM = Lowest common multiple That will divide by all numbers in the question

Method:

  • List the multiples of All numbers

  • Find the smallest number (Other than 1) On both lists

HCM

HCM = Highest common multiple that will divide by all numbers in the question

Method:

  • List the factors Of all numbers

  • Find the biggest one thats on both lists
