3) Anyone operating a motor vehicle on a NJ road must have a valid driver's license, probationary license, or a validated NJ permit.

5) You must have a New Jersey license if your home address is in this state. (chapter 1)
6) You can obtain a special learner's permit at the age of 16 from an approved driving school when you have enrolled in a behind- the- wheel driving course (you must complete 6 hours)
7) To obtain a basic examination permit, you must be 17 years old, and pass two tests: written/knowledge and vision.
8) In order to get your permit validated (stamp of approval by the M.V.C.), you must show proof of age and identity, your social security number, and pass the written and vision tests.
9) Examples of proof of age and identity accepted by the M.V.C. include:

10) When you go to the M.V.C. to obtain your license, you must show 6 points of verification of your identity.
11) An individual driving on a permit must be accompanied by a licensed driver who is 21 years of age and has at least 3 years of licensed driving experience.
12) A person under 21 years of age, on a student learner’s permit, basic examination permit, or a restricted/probationary license has a curfew between 11:00 PM until 5:00 AM. The passenger restrictions include one additional passenger(s). The only exception to the passenger restrictions include if the driver has dependent children of their own, or their parent/guardian is sitting next to them in the passenger seat.
13) While practicing driving with a valid permit the student driver and the supervising adult driver may be charged for any traffic violations that occur.
14) When you are under 21 years of age, you may get a restricted (provisional) license at the age of 17 after driving on your permit for at least 6 months and then passing the MVC's road test.
15) When you are under 21 years of age, and after driving on your restricted license for at least 12 months, you can obtain your official driver’s license at the age of 18.
16) Your basic, unrestricted license is good for 4 years at the cost of $24 with a photo ID.
17) You must report a change of address to the M.V.C. within 1 week.
18) A legal name change must be reported to the M.V.C. within 2 weeks.
19) Altering a driver's license may result in a fine of $1000, a loss of driving privileges, and 6 months imprisonment.

Types of Insurance Coverage and Related Items
Liability- Insurance that pays for damages to the other person’s car/property when you are to blame. It is mandatory in NJ.
Medical Payment (No fault) - Insurance that pays for injuries to the driver/passengers, people in other cars and pedestrians. It is also mandatory in NJ.
Collision- Insurance that pays for damages to your car when you cause the accident. It is optional in NJ when you own the vehicle (Hold the title on it).
Comprehensive- Insurance that pays for damages to your car when it is damaged by something other than a collision. Fire, theft, vandalism, crushed, or destroyed in any way. It is optional in NJ when you own the vehicle (Hold the title on it).
Insurance Surcharge- Amount of money that an insurance company can increase your premium (yearly bill) due to accidents that you cause or moving violations that you commit.
Deductible- Amount of money that an insurance company does not have to pay on a collision/ comprehensive claim. The policyholder is responsible to pay the deductible before the insurance company will pay off any claim.
