Definitions of Resilience

  • General Definition:

    • The capacity to withstand or recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.

    • Resilience is a process and outcome of successfully adapting to challenging life experiences through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility.

  • Psychological Resilience:

    • The ability to cope mentally and emotionally with crises and return to pre-crisis status quickly.

    • Encompasses the ability to adapt to stressors while maintaining psychological well-being amidst adversity.

  • Learning Resilience:

    • Resilience is not an inherent trait but can be learned and developed by anyone through behaviors, thoughts, and actions.
