Common Strong Acids
Strong acids are defined by specific chemical compositions and practical applications. Sulfuric acid is primarily used in batteries, while Nitric acid is utilized in the production of explosives. Hydrochloric acid serves as stomach acid in biological systems, and Hydrobromic acid is employed in medicine.
Common Weak Acids
Weak acids are frequently found in food products and specialized industrial processes. Examples include Phosphoric acid used in processed foods, Carbonic acid found in sodas, and Acetic acid which constitutes vinegar. Citric acid is naturally occurring in fruits. Additionally, Hydrogen Sulfide acid is noted for its rotten egg odor, and Hydrofluoric acid is used for glass etching.
Industrial Strong Bases
Strong bases are essential in manufacturing and environmental management. Sodium Hydroxide is used for making bar soap, whereas Potassium Hydroxide is used for liquid soap. Calcium Hydroxide is applied to farming soil, Magnesium Hydroxide is used as laxatives, and Barium Hydroxide is utilized in wastewater treatment.
