list and describe the 6 steps in natural selection

  1. variation - many variation in (genes/allele/phenotype/trait) present due to mutations, or migration

  • Some have (gene) and some do not, caused by mutation/migration

  1. Overproduction - more offspring produced than can survive due to (limited resources) is the selection pressure therefore…

  1. struggle for existence - leads to competition amongst the species for the avaliable resources

  1. survival of the fittest - (gene) has a selection advantage because….(context), and will be more likely surive and be able to pass on their genetic traits

  • (without gene/other variations) wont have a selection advantage and will be less likely to surive

  1. reproduction - individuals with the favourable allele are more liekly to pass on their favourable alleles to their offspring. This will increase frequency in their offspring.

  • whilst individuals with the unfavourable alleles will be less likely to pass on their unfavourable alleles to their offspring this will decrease frequency in their offspring.

  1. generation change - overtime this will increase the frequency in favourable allele and decrease in the less favourable allele.
