- it is the properties that can be measured and described by a number

ex. mass of a person, Area of a hall, Temperature of our room

TYPES OF PHYSICAL QUANTITIES

  1. Fundamental Quantities - do not depend on any other Physical quantities further their measure measurement (Mass, Time, Length, Temperature)

  2. Derived Quantities - Depends on one or more fundamental qualities (Area, Volume, Speed, force)

Standard measurements

Length - meter, foot, Inch

Mass - kilogram, Pound

Time - Second, Minute, Hours

Temperature - Fahrenheit, Kelvin

- 7 fundamental unit- 722 derive units

RULES OF WRITING

  1. Full name starts with small letter, even people (newton, ampere, coulomb)

  2. scientist = symbol

  3. Other units - small letter

  4. One space is left between the last digit of the numerical and the symbol of unit

  5. Units do not have plural forms

  6. No space is used between the symbol of units

SCI NOTATION TO REMEMBER

  • One solar day equals to 24 hours

  • One side real equals to 23 hours and 56 minutes

  • One solar year equals to 365 days
