Distillation - Core Practical

  1. Pour sample into conical flask
  2. Run cold water through condenser to keep it cool
  3. Gradually heat the conical flask with a bunsen burner - the water will evaporate due to the fact that it usually has the lower boiling point
  4. The water vapour will pass through the condenser, which will cool it enough for it to become a liquid again
  5. The water will now flow into a test tube/beaker, leaving the other substance in the conical flask on its own
