The Fall - Genesis 3

  • Genesis 3 is known as 'The Fall' because it explains how evil entered the world.
  • Adam and Eve eating the apple and sinning against God is known as the moment humanity fell from God's love.

Original Sin

  • Original Sin is the disastrous, fallen state of humankind into which every person is born lacking holiness and justice.
  • It's the imperfect condition that we are all born into.
  • Original sin causes the world to be imperfect.

Consequences of Original Sin

  1. The world became imperfect; death entered the world.
  2. Adam (men) have to work hard to earn a living.
  3. Women have to experience pain in childbirth.

Covenant

  • A covenant is a relationship between God and his people involving promises.

The Sinai Covenant

  • The Sinai Covenant is the relationship God made with his people through Moses.
  • It involves the Ten Commandments, which humans should follow.

Jesus' Two Great Commandments

  1. Love the Lord your God.
  2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Relevance of the Commandments Today

  • The commandments show how God wants us to live.
  • They help us understand how God loves us and our neighbors.
  • The first three commandments are about our relationship with God.
  • The other seven commandments are about our relationship with other humans.
  • The basis of law in the UK is based on the ten commandments.

Conscience

  • Helps us to make decisions in our lives-guides us to what is right or wrong

Ways a Catholic Develops Conscience

  • Reading scriptures.
  • Learning from family education.
  • Following Church teaching.

Baptism

  • Washes away original sin.
  • Makes one a part of the Christian Church.

Infant Baptism

  • It is a long tradition in the Christian Church.
  • A baby can have a relationship with God from the beginning of their life.
  • Babies have original sin washed away from the start of life.

Why is Baptism Important?

  • Baptism begins the Christian Journey.
  • It introduces you into a relationship with God.

Adult Baptism

  • Someone can commit themselves to being a Christian.
  • They can understand what is happening during baptism.
  • Washes away previous sins.
