Hypothalamus and the thymus

HYPOTHALAMUS

  • located just above the pituitary gland and the size of an almond

  • main function- control pituitary gland and hormonal and neural stimulation

  • which allows for functions like

    • control brain stem and spinal cord

    • center of emotional response

    • body temperature regulation

    • regulation of food intake

    • controls thirst

    • regulates sleep and wake cycles

THYMUS

  • located near the sternum

  • produces thymopoietin, thymic factor, and thyroxin, which is involved in the development of the immune system.
