Geography - The study of places and the relationship.

Before representative gov, we had natives that formed an alliance to help defend each other and help solve problems among the five tribes. The women in the longhouses ran the longhouses, and promote chiefs.

- 3 reasons why the European countries began exploring other parts of the world -

• they explored to spread Christianity/religion

• They explored to find a route to Asia

• They explored to get wealth/fame

Mercantilism - An idea that a colony exists for the benefit for the “mother” country.

In 1492 Christopher Columbus looked for the Northwestern passage to Asia. He never found it. (Because it doesn’t exist)

Colombian Exchange - movements of goods and information between Africa, America, and Europe.

Sugar act - tax’s on sugar and molasses

stamp act - tax on all legal documents like birth certificate, newspaper, etc

Townshend act - mole taxes on goods like glass, lead, tea, etc.

• Executive branch = enforce laws

• Judicial branch = review laws

• Legislative branch = makes laws

Checks and balances - each branch has power over the other.
