Effendal Titles & How to Pronounce Them
Mi”gothannen!~
Here is a brief overview of Effendal Titles. If you want more in-depth information regarding Effendal Culture: Titles, Nobility, & Knighthood, it is highly recommended to refer to your Lore Doc. If you do not have an Effendal Lore Doc, please contact your respective New Player Liaison.
The following is a list of the titles, their pronunciation [IPA & then NON-IPA], and their meaning within the Effendal culture:
Perillinen - [ˈperilːinen] [Pehr-iLL-ee-nen] Title meaning heir; considered “royalty” and is mainly of the House only. Highest ranking within the Effendal culture. Sometimes this description changes depending on who you ask.
Note: Rolled/trilled ‘r’. Best to stress the second syllable “-ill-” in the word to help better break it down for you.
Vapaaherra - [ˈʋɑpɑːˌherːɑ] [Vah-PAH-herra] Title meaning baron or lord; considered “nobility” and can be from either the House or Tribes.
Note: Best to stress the second syllable “-paah-” as it elongates the ‘ah’ sound slightly as shown via the two vowels “a”. Think of the word ‘thin’, there is a small stress of double letters in the word ‘thinned’, we are just so used to hearing it we don’t notice it often in our everyday language.
The ‘h’ is soft and airy like a gentle ‘ha’; more air should travel with this ‘h’ sound. Rolled/trilled ‘r’ as always. This word tends to get butchered a lot, probably because it’s so fun to attempt to say.
Ritari - [ˈritɑri] [Ree-tar-ee] Title meaning knight; considered “knight”, masters of all four Callings. Higher ranking within the Effendal culture. Though Effendal Ritari are different from normal ‘knights’, it is seen as an equivalent.
Note: Rolled/trilled ‘r’. Best to stress the first syllable “Ri-” to really drive home that first trilled ‘r’.
Junkkari - [ˈjuŋkːɑri] [Yoonk-ka-ree] Title meaning squire; considered “squire” and is lower ranking within the Effendal Ritari route specifically. It has a dual translation to “young rascal” within its original Finnish origins and is considered the same in Efven”thal.
Note: Rolled/trilled ‘r’. ‘J’ will make the same sound found in ‘jagermeister’, and the ‘u’ is the long vowel sound ‘oo’ like in the word ‘glue’. Best to stress the first syllable “Junk-”.
Edustaja - [ˈedustɑjɑ] [eh-DOO-steye-ah] Title meaning representative; considered a “representative”, lower ranking within the Effendal culture. Usually a representative for tribes to communicate with houses. Some Effendals on the Effendal Council have taken up the title Edustaja along with their given Vapaaherra.
Note: The first vowel ‘e’ is the same one found in ‘red’. The ‘u’ is the same long vowel sound as in the word ‘glue’. Best to stress the first syllable “E-”.
Conlanger’s Note: These words were established pre-Efven”thal conlang. Their origins are of the Natlang: Finnish.
