First Grade Fun: Share & Shine

Activity 1: Funny Faces and Fantastic Facts

A humorous game where kids create silly faces and share fun facts about themselves.

Steps:

  • (2 min) Gather the children in a circle and explain the activity: they will each make a funny face and share one interesting or silly fact about themselves.

  • (5 min) Every child gets a turn to make their funny face while holding a pretend microphone (this could be a small toy or just a hand). They share their name, age, and one silly fact or favorite thing.

  • (3 min) Encourage laughter and applause after each turn to keep the energy high and the atmosphere fun.

  • (5 min) After everyone has shared, do a quick round of 'Face-Off' where they pick their favorite funny faces and recreate them with the group.

Objectives:
To help the children get to know each other better, create a fun and engaging environment, and strengthen their confidence in sharing personal insights.

Activity 2: Silly Story Stones

A creative storytelling activity where kids pick stones with images and create humorous shared stories.

Steps:

  • (3 min) Introduce the concept of story stones. Provide each child with a stone that has a different drawing (animals, objects, characters).

  • (5 min) Allow children 1-2 minutes to look at their stones and think of a short, silly story involving their stone.

  • (7 min) Go around the circle, having each child share their story, and make sure to encourage everyone to add funny sounds or actions as they tell their tales.

  • (3 min) Wrap up by inviting kids to suggest a funny ending to a story, merging elements from their stories to create a collective silly saga.

Objectives:
To engage children's creativity, foster effective communication skills, and promote collaboration through storytelling.

Activity 3: Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow

A high-energy dance-off where kids express themselves through movement and laughter.

Steps:

  • (3 min) Explain that they will play music and dance freely. Introduce different silly dance moves they can try (e.g., chicken dance, robot, etc.).

  • (5 min) Play an upbeat, child-friendly song while the kids dance. Every 30 seconds, pause the music randomly and pose a silly question (like, 'What’s your favorite dinosaur?') to keep them engaged even when they're not dancing.

  • (5 min) After a fun dance session, organize them into small groups and let them come up with a mini-group dance to perform to the rest of the class.

Objectives:
To promote physical activity, enhance social bonding through shared laughter, and encourage creative expression.
