Holy books

Muslims believe the Quran was revealed to Muhammad over a period of 22 years by Angel Jibril. It is considered as infallible and perfect in every way.

The original Quran is thought to be in Heaven, so when Muslims read it, they believe God is speaking directly to them.

Quran means recital, as it was recited by Muhammad by heart to his followers, who were commissioned by Abu Bakr to write a standardised version in 635AD after Muhammads death in 632AD.

The Quran is comprised of 114 Surahs, and is arranged from longest to shortest. Muslims are encouraged to learn Arabic in order to recite the Quran in its perfect form.
