filtration and crystalistation

Filtration

filters are used to separate some mixtures. They let liquids and smaller pieces through and the remainder sits on top of the filter sheet/paper. These pieces that are trapped are insoluble meaning they cannot dissolve. This is more commonly used when salt and water mix.

Crystallisation

A solution is a mixture made of solutes and solvents. They can be separated from a solution by evaporation. This happens by using a bunsen burner and heat is applied making the water evaporate and leaving the crystals to harden

crystals formed slowly = crystals will be large

crystals formed quickly = crystals will be small

If the solute can disolve in the water it is soluble and if it cannot it is insoluble
