5.1.3 Neural Communication- Receptors using TM

When a neurone is at resting state it will have a potential difference- Pacinian corpuscle has many sodium ions outside of the neurone and the channels are shut, when a stimulus is detected the membrane becomes more permeable to sodium ions and the channels will open allowing an influx of sodium depolarising the membrane transducing the mechanical energy into electrical energy.

It is wrapped in multiple tissue layers and lamella which deformed when a stimulus occurs as they stretch and push it. A generator potential then occurs triggering an action potential (Nerve impulse along the sensory neurone) but needs to reach a threshold value

Pacinian corpuscle, mechanoreceptor in the skin and wrapped in lots of connective tissue and gel, when the skin is touched the lamella become deformed and pushed in and pressing on the neurone opening the stretch mediated sodium ion channels causing depolarisation and action potential going to the CNS or spinal cord.
