evangelisation
EVANGELLI GADIUM
teach ppl who don’t know Jesus and his good news. called missionary work which is the hardest challenge ‘i prefer a Church that is bruised because it has been on the streets’
church needs to engage w/ all people thoug it might be hard to ignore the needs of the poor. 1st ppl should be the poor ‘generosity that supports the weak, consoles the afflicted relives suffering.’
god chose for jesus to be born in a poor family → shows his love for the poor. despite mary’s POV → faith transforms human history. Church should be for the poor
local, national and global evangelisation
caths beluve that salvation is so important they should share their faith in salvation. means that in order to help others acheive salvation. caths have duty to help others to find faith and ultimately saved from sin
new evangelisation isn;t very common as most western countries know about christianity and most of them have become secular and turned away from religion
missionary work → involves reaching out to ppl who have lost religin
standing up for injustices in the developing world
LOCAL
churches
parish community
NATIONAL
bishop conferences → ‘the god who speaks’

GLOBAL

CHALLENGES
In the early days of Christianity many people had not heard of the Life death and resurrection of Jesus however today there are many people who have heard this message but have rejected it as outdated or without evidence.
Many people of no faith rely solely on reason and evidence when they question whether there is a god. They fail to realise that humanity has a spiritual dimension and without that they cannot receive the message.
Today Britain is a multi-faith society. It is in the main Christian but British people belong to many different faiths and some to no faith at all. This makes the challenge of evangelisation very great. It is difficult to persuade for example a believer in Islam that they should believe in a Christian God.
There is also much in equality in society.
Church attendance is in decline this means that Churches have to close making it less easy to spread the gospel message.
There are also less men becoming priests and priests are getting older. Now priests have to serve several parishes making the celebration of the sacraments more difficult.
