Fog fever

Occurs

·    When cattle moved from sparse to lush/high protein pasture – L tryptophan ingested, converted in 3-methylindole = pneumotoxic

·    Seen in autumn

Clinical signs

·    Severe respiratory distress WITHOUT coughing or pyrexia

Prevention

·    Introduce cattle to lush pasture slowly

·    Graze yougstock on lush pasture, not adults
