English Class

“Literacy sponsors” When i heard Lucas mention that in "Don’t panic” and who his literacy sponsor was i started to also think who mine were. I start to think about My English teacher senior year of high school and my economics teacher. These two teachers helped me discover 2 new skills that i can potentially learn. Helping me understand myself and helping me prepare for the adult life. When i hear the word literacy sponsor i also hear the word “A role model” some who you can look up, or some one who gives you hope. A looked up Deborah Brandt’s theory about literacy sponsor and i don’t think its just a theory, I think it just has a different possible for like a “role model”. I wish when i was a kid that i read more like Lucas was doing in the first grade i cant imagine were i would be today, I probably wouldn’t have had to start at community but that’s okay.

“Only daughter” by Sandra Cisneros. I cant really relate to be being the only Son, with only sisters but i was the youngest boy. My experience growing up was i had a father and mother that would make me learn everything on my own. My older siblings all got silly handouts and extra help where i feel like i don’t get any of it. I believed it to be unfair. i have a lot of goals i wanted to do and i wish i had a little bit of with it. It seemed like my parents just not interested in like how Sandra's brothers didn’t take her seriously about her college goals. later in the story she goes on to explain how she was a professional writer for 10 years and in those 10 years her father got sick. He finally reads one of her stories which is amazing but i do find it frustrating that it took that long for him to realize how amazing of a daughter he has has. Was a good story though overall!

I love how Alex was a determined boy and wanted to become more knowledgeable. He explains how he refuses to fail. He was a confident boy but he was also humble. As a kid reading late night until he could barley keeps his eyes open is shocking. I could never have done that! Its crazy to me how it all started from a superman comic and man, once he read that book something clicked for him. it felt like a calling to alex, the superman book he read. overall amazing book
