TOK Power Concept
Power in the context of TOK refers to the ability to influence, control, and shape knowledge--how it is made, shared, and accepted.
Power deals with the dynamics between individuals, institutions, or groups that have authority or control over what is considered to be “truth” or “valid knowledge” in a wide variety of contexts, such as education, social media, politics, history, and science.
Aspects of power
Knowledge Production: Those in positions of power can determine what knowledge is created, prioritized or important.
Scientific Research can be influenced by funding from governments or organizations.
Access to Knowledge: Power affects who can access knowledge.
In some societies, knowledge is restricted or censored, which limits the public’s ability to gain diverse perspectives/information.
Knowledge Validation: Power has a role in confirming what knowledge is valid and credible.Experts/Authorities/Gatekeepers (Media/Educational) typically define what is accepted as “true” and/or “correct”.
Perspective: Power influences what viewpoints/ideas dominate an area.
Historically, powerful nations/groups shaped the dominant narrative, which typically diminished the knowledge or ideas of less powerful groups

Unscrupulous- people who are willing to take advantage of others for their betterment.
Power can influence people to manipulate others, such as political figures twisting the true reality of topics.
Exploit- to use someone or something for your own good.
People use their power to exploit others, holding blackmail against them.
Eradicate- to wipe outThroughout history, people with power, such as kings eradicate smaller kingdoms.
Vanquish- to defeat
People with high power vanquish their enemies.
Recourse- the options that exist to find a problem
Many people use their power of knowledge to help in difficult situations.
