ARTICLE 1

section 1:

  • congress consisting of senate and house of representatives

section 2:

  • house of rep composed of members chosen ever other year

  • to be elected you have to be at least 25, live in the district in which you were elected to, and have lived in the US for 7 years

  • house of rep is determined based off of population of the state

section 3:

  • senate is composed of 2 senators per state

  • equal rep

  • must be 30 years old, live in the state in which elected to, and have lived in the US for 9 years

  • vice president is president of the senate

  • has no vote unless breaking a tie

  • president pro tempore presides in the absence of the vice prez

section 6:

  • congressperson are exempt from arrest (except for treason/felony) when at attendance of session

  • cannot be appointed to another civil office

section 7:

  • revenue bills arise in the house of rep

  • revenue bills are debated in the senate

  • bill must pass 2/3 majority before being presented to the prez

section 8:

  • congress does money stuff like

    • borrowing

    • collecting taxes

  • declares war

  • handles war

  • IMPORTANT: “necessary and proper” clause allows congress to make any laws deemed necessary and proper towards executing their power

section 9:

  • congress CANNOT

    • ex post facto law

    • no tax or duty interstate

    • no money drawn from treasury

    • no titles of nobility

section 10:

  • states cant make alliances with other countries

  • states cant print their own money

  • states cant tax imports

  • states cant have a standing military


ARTICLE 2:

section 1:

  • executive power vested in the president

  • decided thru electoral college

  • senators or someone holding an office of the US cannot be an elector

  • no person that isn’t a natural born US citizen and is not at least 35 or has lived in the US for 14 years can be the president

  • if the president is affected by death or disability the vp takes over

  • the president gets paid but this amt cant be increased or decreased during his term

section 2:

  • commander in chief of the military

  • cant do shi without consent from congress

    • makes treaties w 2/3 consent from congress

    • nominate cabinet members

    • appt ambassadors and justices

section 3:

  • state of the union

section 4:

  • they can get impeached


ARTICLE 3:

section 1:

  • judicial power vested in one supreme court

section 2:

  • judicial power extends to all cases

  • ambassadors and ministers and consuls supreme court can have original jurisdiction

  • other cases are appellate jurisdiction

  • trial of all crimes except impeachment is by jury


ARTICLE 4:

section 2:

  • citizens have privileges

  • if u go to another state after committing a crime u can be sent back

section 3:

  • new states can be admitted into congress

  • congress can make and dispose all needful rules for property belonging to the US


ARTICLE 5:

  • congress can make amendments w 2/3 majority
